Inside, the archaeologists discovered a stash of seeds that were buried in a pot as a method of storing food supplies by our ancestors. With further examination, they determined the seeds to be an old, now-extinct species of squash.

The squash was appropriately named “Gete-okosomin,” which means “Old Big Squash” in the Menominee language. Just take a look at the size of this squash… it’s enormous!

Because of this incredible result, scientists are attempting to cultivate the squash so it doesn’t go extinct again…
